If you’re on the hunt for a quiet room in a country setting but close to services and local points of interest, I periodically have a room available for short stays. Guests can look forward to accommodation in a light and spacious 1950’s weatherboard house with period features, surrounded by orchards and rolling valleys.
Affordable, comfortable and only a 30 minute drive from Hobart, it’s perfect for anyone planning a trip through charming landscapes of southern Tasmania. With a renowned and growing foodie scene, lush rainforests, uncrowded landscapes, and an abundance of art and small country markets, the Huon Valley is a great destination for those seeking a slower pace.
My home, set on half an acre, is a mix of established gardens and a small orchard – as well as being a work in progress – with new garden beds, vegetable patches, structures and assorted features popping up from month to month. Surrounded by apple orchards and rivers, I named my property ‘Appledore’ – a name with language ties both to apples and water.
I grow much of my own produce following permaculture principles, and offer a dog-friendly space for guests traveling with their furry companions. I prefer to host guests who understand and respect the principles of permaculture, living low waste and the simplicity of life on the tech-light side.
